A day in the life of the ‘Pit Table’
It might sound a little boring, but it isn`t, we love it.
We collect our stock, sales items and information leaflets from the KAR shop near the fire station at around about 9.30am, and set up our stall opposite the George Café, across from the Kyrenia Belediyesi office in Kyrenia.
We are so lucky to have this spot for many reasons. Firstly, the café supply us with the tables and chairs we need, plus water, coffee and tea for free. Our beautiful strays, in the shape of dogs and cats, are at hand to support our role of helping the animals who desperately need funds for KAR. The animals sit, drink, eat and sleep, while we man the table. Also, during the heat we can set ourselves up under the shade of a huge tree and in the winter months, we move to the sun, just a couple of meters away.
The other draw for setting up opposite two cafes is that they are frequented by other like-minded, generous-to-animals, kind of people. They see what we are doing and many make donations.
During our time, until 12.30pm, we answer many questions, and not just to do with KAR. People also ask questions about cash points, bars, restaurants, etc. One day an Irish gentleman wanted to know where he could find a bible and some rosary beads, which left us a little stumped. We told him he was on the wrong side of the island.
But we also give out serious information, including how folk can use the KAR Pet Travel service to move their animals from one country to another. Plus, we managed to help home a stray to the UK; customers of the café fell in love with a stray hound which now happily lives in the countryside of Dorset.
Please keep an eye out for us, and pop by to say hello!
