NATIONAL CAT DAY 29 OCTOBER

Cats make excellent companions. They rarely miss you, but when they do, you sure know it. Awareness days such as this one urge pet lovers to adopt from a local shelter. The day also reminds us that neutering and spaying our furry companions helps reduce the abandoned population.
Shelters are full of cats and kittens in need of forever homes. These feline fur babies come with as many personalities as they do colors and coats. They curl into our hearts and will just as quickly remind us they decide who they love. Whether they were born in the shelter, surrendered or abandoned, hundreds find their way to a shelter.
Here are the musings of one of our fantastic volunteers and her cats.
“I have four KAR cats, they all came from our rescue centre, and each has his/her own personality, foibles and irritating habits. They are loved and in return they love us, I cannot imagine my life without them. Of course being in Cyprus my cat collection has grown to include another 4 (+1,more of him later) outdoor who all appeared at various stages of the time we have been here. All of them rub along together and for most of the time we have harmony here at Johnson Towers.
I had no intention of having anymore cats but life occasionally throws you a curve ball, I have just been adopted by quite a handsome, friendly male, he has clearly singled out Johnson Towers as his future abode.
Whilst fussing him, I explained to him the terms and conditions of living here…
1,Disagreements, paw waving and expression of feelings are allowed but strictly NO fighting.
2, Breakfast and dinner will be served under the pergola, snacks of biscuits are also available.
3 Winter residence is provided these are shared facilities.
4 Flea and worming treatments are mandatory. The only exception is Penny our temperamental tortie, she does NOT do humans, nor does she take kindly to any medical intervention, trust me, I bear the scars after a fraught period of gingivitis, (that’s Penny by the way not me) such is her aversion to medical treatment, one vet looks at my cat carrier and says “crazy cat?” The relief is palpable when I say no.
5 Should he fall ill, a trip to the vet in a cat carrier in the car will be the mode of transport, non negotiable. Wowing and complaining all the way there has no effect on me, but feel free to express your feelings.
6 There will be treats, and lots of love and fuss should he wish to avail himself of this.
7 Last but not least he will lose a couple of small parts of his anatomy. Again non negotiable .
Bugsy (as I have named him) appeared quite happy to agree with the terms and conditions, although he did look worried at number 7, I did explain he will have no use of them living here, he appeared to accept this.
So, all that remains is for the others to come to terms with him living with us. There has been a few choice words but no attempt at beating each other up, YET.
I shall give him a week or so to-
A)Settle in.
B) Lull him into a false sense of security as he thinks I’ve forgotten,
before he gets whisked off for his ‘little operation’..”
Our rescue centre has lots of cats and kittens (and dogs and puppies too) all waiting for their furever homes. If you have room in your heart and in your home for one of our animals please do visit the centre. They are open 7 days a week from 9am to 1pm. Thank you.
