Even with curfews still in place across the island, KAR still works at helping vulnerable animals. These 2 puppies were dumped in a garden and faced a life on the streets at 4 weeks old. We arranged emergency foster care for them and they remain there until the centre reopens and has space for them. The centre is currently full and being manned by skeleton staff who are living on site.
They are male (2.7kg, white) and female (1.7kg, brown), they have started their vacination programme and will be ready for rehoming in approx 3 weeks. We would like them to go to the same home as they are completely reliant on each other.

As many of you are already aware – we are struggling with the cost of the extra food that we are having to buy in for the cats and dogs as well as paying our bills. We have had NO money come in – apart from our sponsorship money and kind donations from our supporters – for over 4 weeks now.

Committed, dedicated and compassionate – that is so very true for all of our staff and volunteers.
But even more so now.
For the last 10 days Elaine and some of her staff have been living up at the center. They decided that it was the only way, due to movement restrcitions and to save on vehicle fuel costs, that they could be sure of being able to provide ongoing and guaranteed consistency of care for the 300 KAR cats and dogs.
They have very limited personal facilities up there – as you know there is no mains water, no beds, limited cooking facilities, scant wifi – basically it is camping at its most basic level.
Our cats and dogs are so very lucky to have them and so too is Team KAR.
Please if you can help in any way – a donation/cat or dog food please do so – we are doing everything that we can from here but need help from others however far and wide also.

It is difficult times for everyone here in the TRNC (and across the world) and KAR are really feeling the crunch now trying to carry on feeding the 300 cats and dogs.
There has been no donations from the hotels/restaurants/schools for nearly 4 weeks now.
Our charity shops have been closed now for nearly 4 weeks.
Our book stall has not been open for 3 weeks .
There have been no fund raising events.
All of which means that – apart from our sponsorship scheme (THANKYOU for continuing to sponsor one of our cats/dogs) and individual donations (THANKYOU) we have had NO income for nearly 4 weeks.
Please if you are in the supermarket could you buy one (or more !!) can of dog/cat food, or a bag or dry cat/dog food, or a bag or rice or pasta. You can then pop it into one of our food collection boxes and we will be able to collect it and take it to the center to help feed the cats and dogs.

Pet Travel – can we just remind owners to double check your pets rabies booster date. Even though they cannot currently travel you should keep up to date with the rabies so that, as soon the restrictions are lifted, they will be able to travel as/when you want them to.

We have been trying to keep up a reasonably normal remote office rota during these difficult times . However this is now becoming too difficult for us to manage.
Sorry to say but as of Tuesday 31st March, until further notice, we are not able to continue to man the office phone and will only be able to receive and respond to requests, for help/info etc, by way of email.
