World Animal Day 2018 Poetry Competition.

Friday January 25th  2019 was Prize Giving Day!
To celebrate World Animal Day, which is 4 October every year, the KAR Education Team decided to run a poetry competition. Eleven schools were invited to take part, and all eleven  submitted entries. There were poems about all sorts of animals, including one about a sloth! The age groups were 5-8 years and  9-12 years, and some of the poems were illustrated.
There were nearly 300 Turkish entries and 100 English entries.
Every entrant has received a certificate for taking part.
We were so lucky to be introduced to Alev Adil, who is a published poet and is Dean of Arkin University ( ARUCAD) in Girne. Alev judged the entries and arranged for us to hold the award ceremony at the University. We are so grateful to her.

We had 15 winners, who received special certificates, and cups or medals. 3 received a special prize for their art work.

Friday was a fine day, so the prize giving was held outside in the beautiful quadrangle of the university. All 15 winners were there with their family and teachers. Everyone was so proud of the young people….. they were amazing,

Children, animals, and poetry! As Alev said, what a fantastic combination!

The Education Team would like to thank everyone who took part in, or was involved in supporting this event. The enthusiasm and participation was mind blowing!
